A visit to Georgina on the south shore of beautiful Lake Simcoe will provide fun for the whole family year round. At one time, Lake Simcoe and all the lands surrounding it were covered by a much larger glacial lake called Lake Algonquin. It’s still large enough to work up quite a chop on a windy day, when sailboards and sailboats of many kinds dot the horizon. Excellent marinas surround the lake and offer a full range of services.

Amazingly, for a lake so close to Toronto, Lake Simcoe has one of the highest fish populations of any freshwater lake on the continent. Avid anglers visit in every season and almost always go home with a catch.

In winter, snowmobiles are a way of life on Lake Simcoe and hundreds of fish hut operators will outfit and happily guide you to the best spots to drop your line. Local anglers and faraway visitors come and enjoy the challenge and hospitality of the area’s fishing derbies and competitions.

Make sure you book a stop at Georgina’s Recreational Outdoor Campus (The ROC), which combines high quality sports and adventure based activities in an ultimate outdoor playground. Feel the wind in your hair as you enjoy the tube and terrain park where you can whisk down more than 100 feet on its snow tube course or perfect your snowboarding skills while playing on one of the four available runs. For the younger set or more cautious, the ROC’s free toboggan hill is guaranteed fun. But if careening down the slopes is a little too fast for your liking, you can run, walk, hike or snowshoe on one of the facilities many spectacular trails.

Enjoy the view of the hill from the warmth and comfort in front of the fire in the spectacular Chalet while you grab a bite to eat or sip a hot chocolate to warm up.

When the ice breaks up, spring brings us boating activities of all kinds. Perch anglers dot the shorelines and river banks. Golf courses come alive. Scenic drives along the lakeshore allow you to take in the beauty of the lake in its many moods featuring the birds, clouds and sunsets for which it is renowned.

During warm months, The ROC offers a whole host of activities for the entire family, including a ropes course, climbing wall, 300-ft. zip line, a water play splash pad, plenty of hiking trails, a comprehensive cycling course, and numerous volleyball, tennis and basketball courts. Pack a lunch, get something from the Canteen or enjoy a sit-down meal at the Chalet.

The south shore of Lake Simcoe is rich in culture, history and nature. It has been the home of a number of famous Canadian writers, and the area is full of lovely summer homes. The tree-covered, rolling hills and winding rivers to the south are home to many charming and productive farms, picturesque from seed time to harvest. Georgina’s woods, hedgerows and gardens are home to wildlife of all kinds with a splendid collection of birds, attracting “birders” from all over.

The Sutton Fair celebrates its 160th year August 6th to the 9th. It is one of Canada’s oldest and most popular fair & horse shows. Georgina is also home to many festivals (See events). With its breathtaking colour, autumn is a delight to the golfer, painter or photographer. On foot or on bicycle, you can experience the fresh air, the smell, the sounds of the lake and its river inlets with their gathering birds and beautiful fall scenery.
